Internet Tethering on BB10 devices can be done in two ways:

1. Using Mobile Hotspots: Blackberry 10 devices can connect up to 8 devices together via WiFi. Multiple devices like Tablet PCs, laptops, e-readers and other WiFi enabled devices can share the data plan from the BB 10 phone. This is very ideal especially when an ad-hoc internet solution is required for use while on the go. However care must be taken not to exceed the data usage of the phone.

2. Internet Tethering: This option is ideal when connecting  only 1 device to the Internet. Internet Tethering supports Bluetooth and USB connectivity but not WIFI connectivity. Some analyst might consider this point – to- point option  more secured than the Mobile Hotspot method.

Mobile Hotspot Features

• More devices can be connected to the Mobile Hotspot – 8 devices compared to 5 devices using BB 7.1
• The Inactive Duration can be adjusted from the 15 minute default. 5 minutes is the minimum inactive duration, 60 minutes is the maximum duration
• Wireless 802.11 b and g are supported. Wireless N is not supported on the Z10 phones.

To avoid the disappointment of having to either returning an item to the store or just “managing it” is to do some research before purchasing a Tablet PC.

In June 2012, a survey was conducted to determine the factors people consider before buying a Tablet PC. It was based on 6 main factors

• Size
• Brand
• Operating System
• Performance
• Internal Storage
• Price

Out of 100 responses, one of the least important factors when choosing the right Tablet PC is Internal Storage. Although this may be the case in locations where there is access to fast Internet Access and the “cloud” but it is definitely not the case in developing countries where data connectivity is either too expensive, non-existent or too slow to download Gigabytes of video content and pictures.

Let us take a look at internal storage in more detail. Tablet PCs like the Google Nexus 7, 10 and the Apple iPad Tablet PCs come in various sizes, from 16GB, 32GB and 64GB (in the case of iPads). The price difference in sizes in most cases is about $100 per storage upgrade (16-32-64GB). These tablets do not come with MicroSD slots which could have further increased their internal storage if the Tablets PC had them.

One of the success stories of “clone tablets” is that despite their low storage – 4GB in space, the use of Micro SD cards increases the internal storage to the maximum of 36GB. This has been a success story of “clone tablet pcs” – most clone Tablet PCs are sold for less than $100 USD.

In summary, if you are looking at what to consider before buying a Tablet PC, look at all the factors listed above and determine the most important one.

Apple released the iPad Mini late October 2012 with the usual wow factor. Many wondered what will happen with the 10 inch version which still is the most widely used Tablet PC worldwide.

Let us look at the Features of the iPad Mini in summary:

Processor/RAM: The iPad Mini comes with the Dual Core A5 processor, which is extremely fast but it is not a quad core processor found in the Google Nexus 7 Tablet PC. Anyways, the processor is similar to the 3rd generation iPads, so it is not bad after all. Display: The iPad Mini comes with a 7.9-Inch LED-Backlit Multi-Touch Display  with a resolution of 1024-By-768. This is by far better than most 7 inch Tablet PC in the market with 800 by 480 resolution. However over Tablet PCs like the again the Google Nexus 7 has 1280-by-800 resolution.

Applications: The good news is that all applications including Face Time that runs on the 10 inch Apple iPad will also run the 7.9 inch version. So now need to purchase applications specifically for the iPad Mini.

Dual Cameras: The iPad Mini comes with 2 FaceTime HD Cameras/ iSight Cameras. Excellent for communication via Facetime between other Apple product users and with ooVoo and Tango for communication with Microsoft, Android and other Tablet owners, laptops and Desktops.

Wireless and Bluetooth Support: Wireless N and Bluetooth v 4.0 Supported.

iPad Mini Options

Let us now look at the options out there. Most people – in my opinion will purchase the entry level version because of the price of $329.00 – what is the sense of purchasing higher versions since one can just go for the 10 inch version.

iPad Mini + WiFi: This is will be to my standards the most popular Tablet PC during the holiday season. My advice will be to order it online since for now since it would be out of stock in the stores due to the high demand. It comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage sizes.

iPad Mini + WiFi+ 4G/LTE: If you will be on the road all the time, then you may want to go for the iPad Mini Tablet PCs with built-in 4G radios. They also come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage sizes.

Issues

The issues regarding  Nexus 7 and Flash are listed below:

• Adobe Flash cannot be installed from Google Play. Google Play blocked Flash for all Nexus 7 tablets and it will be the same issue for Jelly Bean Android Tablets. Tablets with Android 4.o and lower can still load Adobe Flash from Google Play.
• Adobe Flash cannot run on Google Chrome. Google Chrome is the default browser on Nexus 7 tablets.
• What this means that you cannot watch movies from sites like http://www.cnn.com if you have the device.

Workaround

• Manually install Adobe Flash 11.1 player on Tablet PC. Some websites have links to APK files for file download. Make sure it is done from a reliable source. Search for this application from Google and you will see couple of sites to download it from.
• Install the following applications from Google Play:

• FireFox Beta: This is another Internet browser that works well on Nexus 7. It is okay to have multiple browsers on a Tablet PC, If you wish you can keep Google Chrome as the default browser. Firefox Beta (not Firebox) supports Adobe Flash.
• Flashify: This application serves as the “interface” responsible for preparing flash documents for use on browsers that support flash, including FireFox Beta.

To play a flash video

• Open a webpage with a flash video like http://www.cnn.com from Google Chrome
• From Google Chrome, click on Menu and select Share
• Select the Flashify icon
• You will the see a list of browsers to choose from. Choose FireFox Beta.
• The webpage will open with the Video clip. Play and watch the video.

In summary, we hope that upgrades from Google will enable people watch flash movies but for now, the mystery behind Nexus 7 and Flash can be considered resolved.

Communication Ports: This tablet PC has a MicroSD port – add an additional 32GB to the 8GB of storage this device has. The USB/OTG port accepts a keyboard or mouse. The Google Nexus will work with a Bluetooth Keyboard and not a USB keyboard.

Cameras: The Atrix Jelly Bean Tablet PC comes with two cameras, a 2 MP rear camera and a 0.3 MP Front Camera. The Google Nexus comes with a 2MP front camera and no rear camera.
